At the feet of Father Teide!!!
When nature created the island of Tenerife, it put every effort into creating one of the most extraordinary and beautiful places on the planet. A gigantic piece of rock that volcanoes forged from the Atlantic plate at a depth of 2,000 meters, reaching up to touch the sky at almost 4,000 meters above sea level. The great Father Teide pierces the oceans of clouds in search of space, reaching an impressive 3,717 meters above sea level.
That center of the island where the giant Teide rests is an amphitheater of immense proportions (Las Cañadas) and a lunar landscape that makes us imagine being on another planet, in another galaxy. Such immensity in the center of the island has conditioned the rest of the island's geography. The north with its Orotava Valley, covered by endless forests of Canary Island pine, a tree that survives fires and storms. The south is arid almost like the Sahara Desert, as the central heights of the island prevent clouds from crossing to the other side, turning its beaches into a paradise for the inhabitants of the dark and cold European north.
Tenerife isn't just Mount Teide and the pyramid that supports it. To the west, we find the Teno Massif , with its deep, vertiginous ravines sculpted by time.
And to the east we find the great unknown surprise: the Anaga Peninsula , with heights exceeding 1,000 meters above sea level, and whose rugged peaks are covered with the primitive Laurisilva forest , a Tertiary ecosystem, a survivor of the last glaciations that turn it into a true fairy forest.
If we add all its cultural and architectural heritage, plus its gastronomy and renowned wines, Tenerife is undoubtedly a place no nature and culture lover should miss. And that's not all; there's more, much more...
Due to the extraordinary geography of Tenerife, the route is not physically difficult, as the gradients are considerable. Technically, it is very manageable, and we can classify the route as medium for gravel bikes and medium/low for mountain bikes.
For logistical reasons, given the locations of the island's two airports, the route can be started either in Santa Cruz de Tenerife (near Los Rodeos Airport in Tenerife North) or in the coastal town of El Medano (near Reina Sofia Airport in the south).
